Playing To Win - Book Review

As you might know I have been reading Playing To Win by Fleur Beale I have posted a slide for all my tasks. Click here for slide. But I decided to post it on my blog because it is the final task.

Book review - I think this was a great book.  lots of interesting stuff like the car crash, were Denny chased Todd because he cut his brakes and were Todd and Denny had a drag race. I think this is  a really good book for everyone and people that like rugby.

Summer Learning Journey

Hello Emma my name is Cody  I am a year 8 at Hornby High School. My favourite subject is science.  I am looking forward to the summer learning journey.

 I think the summer learning journey was a great idea because it promotes learning through prizes and fun tasks. I registered because I do not want to go through the summer slide.

My Cookie

Today we made cookies. The ingredients were vanilla essence, baking powder, choc chips, sugar, flour, butter and condensed milk. Ours melted but they still tasted really good.

Writing Task

This week we had to choose an image from an image board.

The name of the story is Trapped

I chose this image.

Once there was some called Kenny. He was walking in the forest then he slipped down a hill and fell into a whole. He was stuck. He found some supplies. There was a sledgehammer. Heaps of wood and 30 watermelons. luckily the water melons were a source of food and water. It took him 3 weeks but he had escaped. He had to build A spiral staircase but he had escaped.

Digi Tech

I had to answer some questions here they are.

I chose homelessness. I chose homelessness because it is a world wide issue.  I know that if you are homeless you can´t have a job. You also can have much food because you might not have much money.

Something that went well was that my game has no glitches. Some of my strengths were actually making the game. Something that worked well was that the game actually worked.

I would not do anything new next time. I thought it all went well.

Reading

For my book Playing To Win I had to read 3 chapters and write a summary. Here it is.

The main character is called Denny. He just moved and is now going to buy a new uniform and a new car and got a job at a video store.  His new car was a Ford Escort. It  needed to be safe enough for his two seven year old sisters. He also likes playing rugby. On his first day at his new school he parked in someones spot at school called Todd and from then on Todd kept bulling Denny. After school Denny picks up his sisters and goes to the park to play rugby with him. In the last bit Denny and his class went on a trip to the beach. Todd kept pushing Denny so Denny put a crab on Todd and it kept nipping him.

P.E

As you might know I taught a game called bench ball to the rest of the class. Now I have to talk about my experience.                                       
I think our game was really successful because just about everyone enjoyed it. I contributed by setting up the game and teaching everyone the game. I would use bibs next time.  I learnt to use bibs next time and its easier to play when you keep passing the ball. I have really enjoyed P.E this term because we got to play games and sports.

DMIC Math

For DMIC math we had to answer these questions.

Matiu and Ariana have agreed to work for their Mum over the holidays.The pay they get will vary.

Ariana will get $10 for the first day she works and two more dollars for every day she works after that.

We did it for 14 days so that would be $10 on the first day and $2 every other days so thats $26. $10 + $26 = $36. So she makes $36.

Matiu will get $1 for the first day he works, but for each day he works from then on, his pay will be doubled.

First he starts off 1$ and it keeps on going $2 $4 $8 $16 $32 $64 $128 $256 $512 $1024 $2048 $ 4096 $8192. So he has $8192.

Who would you rather be and why?

Matiu. Because he gets $8192 

New Novel study

This week we are starting a new novel study called Playing To Win. For starters we have to answer some questions before we read.

1. Based on the front cover and title ONLY what do you predict this book might be about?
   Rugby. I think this because of the cover.
2. Fleur Beale wrote “Playing to Win”. Why do you think it is important that we read books by New Zealand authors?
   Because they were made in New Zealand
3. Do you agree with the statement “playing to win”? Why
   
   or why not?No because even if you loose you played for fun

4. Read the back cover, what else do you know about this story

now? I learned that there is someone called todd and he

tripped over and clawed someones face. The kid that he clawed

threw him to the back of the room and ran out of the room and

started his

car.

Do you think you will like this book. Why or why not?

I do not know because I know nothing about.

Reading Task

On Monday I got told to choose a book from the book shelf and read it and do some tasks. I chose a book called the yeti files. Once I read three chapters I had to do a task. The task was choose a character and make a picture with some acts on it. Here it is. 

Meerkat Facts

Today a got given a task board and we had to choose one. I chose to make a DLO about Meerkats here it is.




We recently went to Orana Park and seen 3. I like Meerkats because they are small animal that are always in groups and I want one.

Orana Wildlife Park Visit

On Monday Bh and Tz went to Orana Wildlife Park.  Orana Wildlife Park is a zoo near the Christchurch airport. In the morning we jumped on a bus and got driven to Orana Wildlife Park. When we got there we went to the giant kiwi near the kiwi enclosure. Then we dropped off our bags and got split up into two groups. I was in group 1. My group went to the spider-monkey first. Then we seen the lions. They were really loud. After that we went to the tiger enclosure. But there was no tigers in there. Later we went to the Tasmanian devils. They looked like giant rats. After that we seen the kea and the kiwi. Next we seen the reptiles. There were over fifty. Later we had lunch. After lunch we seen the springbok. They are the rarest animals in the park. After we saw the orangutans and the gorillas. They have the biggest enclosures. After we fed the giraffes The last animal we seen was the meerkats. They were so tiny. Then we went back to school.
