ANZAC Biscuits

This week me and my group made ANZAC biscuits as part of the kiwi baker task. They turned out quite well, they were a bit soft but they hardened up and were really good. We had one mistake which was they weren't packed down well. In the end they were really good and sweet. Here is the recipe and some photos:

1 cup Edmonds Standard Grade Flour

1 ¾ cups rolled oats

½ cup Chelsea White Sugar

¼ cup (firmly packed) Chelsea Soft Brown Sugar

1 cup desiccated coconut

125g Tararua Butter, cubed

¼ cup Chelsea Golden Syrup Tin

2 Tablespoons water

1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

food handling gloves

Method:

1. Pre-heat oven to 150°C conventional bake. Line a baking tray with baking paper.

2. In a medium sized bowl, sift together the Edmonds Standard Grade Flour and cinnamon. Add the rolled oats, coconut and sugars; mix well.

3. Combine the Tararua Butter, Chelsea Golden Syrup and water in a small saucepan and stir over low-medium heat until the Tararua Butter melts and the mixture is well combined (ensure the mixture does not simmer or boil). Remove from heat and stir in the bicarbonate of soda. Add immediately to the dry ingredients and use a wooden spoon to stir until well combined.

4. Roll 1-2 tablespoons of mixture into balls and place onto a tray about 5cm apart. Use your fingers to flatten each slightly (until they are about 1cm thick) and bake for 16 minutes (for a chewy biscuit) or 20 minutes for a crunchier biscuit.

5. Set aside for 5 minutes to cool slightly before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Keep in an airtight container for up to a week.

Distillation Experiment

Aim: To separate a solute from solvent in a solution using distillation.

Equipment: Coke or coke zero, conical flask, heatproof mat, a delivery tube, bung, element, retort, boss head, clamp,
boiling tube.

Setup the equipment as shown in diagram.Add approximately 50ml of coke to your conical flask. Turn on
the element. Heat the Coke until most of the it has been evaporated and turned into a clear liquid in the over tube. Turn off your element.

Observations: At the start the coke started to bubble and the bubbles went to the side of the flask, After the
flask had condensation. Soon the coke really started boiling and it started creating a liquid in the boiling tube.  At the end there will be brown sticky sugar left over. The coke had quite a bit of sugar left over and surprisingly the coke zero also had sugar left over.

How to make an ID tag on tinkercad

A couple weeks ago we finished our ID tags. This week I made a slide with screenshots and a video on how to make one on tinkercad. Here it is:

Backstabbing

Today in health we are learning how to deal with negative relationship issues we chose backstabbing. Here is information. On the left how to deal with it and on the right how to find out.

ID Tag

Over the past 2 terms we have been working on an Id tag. This blog is the steps on how we made it.

First I got a piece of aluminium and cut it down to around 45mm. Then I filed down the edges to them curved. After that I Punched a little hole in the middle and drilled through it. Next I made the hole a bit more smooth and punched the letters in it. Finally I polished it and it was done.

Mini Pastry Savouries

This week we have made Mini Pastry Savouries. Ours had ham cheese and egg.  Here is the recipe and a photo

1/2 sheet pre rolled pastry

Keep the pastry as cold as possible

Stock pastry scraps before re rolling do not roll pastry up into ball or will lose it

Add diced cooked bacon, ham to make mini egg and bacon or ham pie

1 Using pastry cutters, cut circles to the patty pans and chill in the fridge.

2 Mix 1 egg's pinch of salt 1t of milk

3 Whisk together with a fork

4 Transfer egg mixture to measuring cup

5 Place some thawed peas and corn in each pastry case

6 Carefully pour egg mixture into each case,Don't spill any!!

7 Bake a 200 degrees for 8-10 minutes

8 Cool and eat

Evaporation Experiment

We have been learning about evaporation. This is the results on the evaporation experiment. Evapiration is where a liquid turns into a gas.

Aim: To evaporate the copper sulphate and separate the mixture.

Hypothesis: I think the blue will evaporate and there will be a clear liquid left over.

Equipment: Copper sulphate solution, 250 ml beaker, heat proof mat gauze mat, evaporating basin and an element

Method

1 Set up element

2 Add 100ml of hot water to the beaker on the gauze mat on the element

3 Add copper sulphate to the evaporation basin until its quarter full

4 Carefully place the evaporation basin on the top of the beaker

5 Turn on the element to 2 to warm it up and keep going on different to heat up

6 Heat the solution until most of the solvent has been evaporated and crystals of solute are forming.

7 Turn off the element careful not to touch as will be hot for a long time.

Observations - It started bubbling and forming a crystal powder

Conclusion- It worked

Discussion- worked and formed crystal

Evaluation-It was a good experiment

The Present

Today we watched a video called the present and we had to answer some questions. Here are the answers and questions.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How would you describe the boy at the start of the video?

He was concentrated on his game and confused when his mum put the box on the table. Then when his mum said it was for him he paused his game and went to open it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What did he think of his present? How do you know? Why did he feel that way?

He didn’t like the dog because he threw the dog away. The dog was missing a leg.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What lesson did the boy learn by the end of the film?

The lesson is to be grateful for what you get and everyone is the same.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why is it important to be grateful for what we have?

Because people might not have the stuff you have.
