How Tatau came to Samoa

Today we read a story about how Tatau came to Samoa.  It started quite a long time ago and there conjoined twins. One the goddess of canoeing and one goddess of swimming. Once they swam to Fiji and got taught a song. Women were to be tattooed and were not to be tattooed. Soon It as time to leave Fiji and they started swimming back. Then they found a clam and started swimming down to get it. But then they felt sea sick and swam back up to the surface. When they got back to Samoa they got the song muddled and and said men are to be tattooed and are not to be tattooed. For many years they only tattooed men but eventually they were able to.

Samoan language week task - Umu

Because this week is Samoan language week we had to make a blog about an Umu and answer these questions.

What is an Umu? What does it need, what is it for?

An umu is a rock oven. You need compact rocks, banana leaves, fire wood, coconut and husk and two pieces of dry wood. An umu is made by rubbing two sticks together and burning wood and coconut husk then heating up rocks, Putting the food on top and putting leaves over the rocks to keep the steam in.

The Ultimate Choc-chip Biscuit

Today I made chocolate biscuits for year 9 baking at home. It started off good but we didn’t really have any chocolate so I had to use Easter eggs. I also used a white chocolate berry chocolate bar and put it with the other chocolate. Then I sifted the flour with Milo because we did not have any cocoa powder. Then I melted all the chocolate which I was only meant to melt a bit so it turned into blog and was a really thick mixture. Then when they were finished. They actually tasted really good but chocolatey and you could  taste the berries from the white chocolate. Here are some photos:

Red Velvet Cupcakes

Today I made red velvet cupcakes for my baking at home task. I made them with Edmond's packet but I still needed to add other ingredients. First I lined the cupcake tin with cupcakes cases. Then I put the cupcake mix into a small mixing bowl. After that I put 2 eggs 1/2 cup of milk and 60 grams of butter. Then I Mixed it with an electronic mixer and that was the cupcake mix. After that I filled the cases with the mixture and put them in the oven for 22 minutes. I took them out and let them cool down and started on the icing. I put the icing packet, 60 grams of butter and 4 tsp of milk in the bowl. After that I used an electronic mixer and mixed it all together and iced the cupcakes. They tasted really good. Here are some photos:

Cupcakes

At the end of last term we made cupcakes. This blog is just what I can remember from then.  When we started making them we didn't do so well with the measurements but we ended up doing quite well. We mucked up a few things with the baking soda and the baking powder. But they ended up good anyway. Then we made the icing. My groups icing was red with salted caramel flavouring. When we were done icing the cupcakes we put M&M's and black licorice as faces on the cupcakes and they were done.
